WellyED: Classrooms Across Wellington – Day 24

Today’s post comes from Papakowhai School.

Making, Recording and Sharing:

This is a glimpse into Kauri Toru at Papakowhai School.

As a senior class at Papakowhai School, we visit the junior school once a week for Buddy Reading.

At the end of last term we decided to use our writing, technical and artistic skills to make some books for them to enjoy.

In groups of 3 or 4, we wrote a story suitable for 5 year olds and then we drew pictures to match. It was quite hard writing a story that was interesting but still easy to read….

We then recorded our stories on Garage Band and made a QR code to get to this recording.

This week during Buddy Reading we were able to share our Big Books with about 60 5 year olds. We think they loved our stories.

Each Big Book has its own QR code on it, and the junior school are learning how to use their iPads to scan it, and listen to the story.
